[04-28-2025] Los Angeles County, CA – Two-Car Crash Leaves at Least 5 People Injured

Los Angeles, Los Angeles County – At least five people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Sunday evening in the harbor area of Los Angeles, authorities said.

Information about the circumstances leading up to the crash remains limited. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of N. Wilmington Boulevard and W. Opp Street shortly before 8 p.m.

Video footage shared on the Citizen app shows a dark-colored four-door sedan severely damaged after slamming into a power pole, with the vehicle’s hood crushed nearly to the windshield. Airbags inside the car appeared to have deployed.

The second vehicle, identified as a light-colored older Volkswagen Beetle, was seen resting in the middle of the intersection before being loaded onto a flatbed tow truck. It’s unclear how much damage the Beetle sustained.

Initial reports suggested a 3-year-old child may have been among those seriously injured and requiring advanced medical care, though that information has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

Footage from the crash scene captured a wide debris field cordoned off with yellow tape. Several individuals were seen speaking with officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division within the closed intersection.

It remains unclear whether all five injured individuals were transported to hospitals or what their conditions are. Video from the scene showed at least one ambulance leaving the area.

Investigators have not released any additional information, and it is still unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

How Can You Claim Compensation When a Minor is Involved in a Car Crash?

When a minor (someone under 18) is injured in a car crash, the process of claiming compensation is slightly different from that of an adult. Because minors cannot legally represent themselves, a parent or legal guardian must file the claim on their behalf. This is typically done by appointing a “guardian ad litem” — a court-approved adult who acts in the minor’s best interests during the legal process.

The compensation can cover medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and any long-term impacts the injury may have on the child’s life. In most cases, if a settlement is reached, the court must review and approve it to ensure that it is fair and adequately protects the child’s interests. Often, the settlement funds are placed into a blocked bank account or structured settlement that the minor can access once they reach adulthood, although exceptions can be made for immediate medical or essential needs.

If the case goes to court, the legal process will involve proving the extent of the minor’s injuries, the impact on their future, and the liability of the at-fault party. Consulting an experienced personal injury lawyer is strongly recommended to navigate the special rules that apply to claims involving minors.
