[04-30-2025] San Bernardino County, CA – Richard Anthony Myers Fatally Struck by Truck While Riding Scooter in Victorville

Victorville, San Bernardino County –  A 48-year-old man from Victorville lost his life early Wednesday morning after being hit by a pickup truck while riding a motorized mobility scooter, according to officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The fatal collision occurred around 3:49 a.m. on April 30, 2025, near the intersection of Monte Vista Road and Dos Palmas Road.

A statement from the Victorville Police Department reported that emergency crews from the Victorville Fire Department and American Medical Response were dispatched following a traffic incident involving a white Ford F-150 and a man on a mobility scooter.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Ford was heading south on Monte Vista Road when it struck the man, who was later identified as Richard Anthony Myers, a local resident. Myers died at the scene from his injuries.

Authorities noted that the driver of the Ford remained at the location and fully cooperated with investigators.

Debris from the scooter was scattered across the roadway, and the Victorville Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to take over the investigation. The intersection was temporarily shut down during the early hours for the investigation.

In a heartfelt Facebook post dated March 23, 2025, Myers shared that he had been placed on hospice care due to a terminal illness. “I am on hospice now and they said it would be lucky if I lasted six months,” he wrote. “May God bless you all. I pray every day to live as much as I can under these circumstances.”

The post drew numerous messages of support. On Wednesday morning, Paula Joy, who identified herself as the mother of Myers’ daughter, posted publicly expressing sorrow and requesting privacy for the family.

How to Obtain Compensation When Someone Dies in a Truck Accident

Losing a loved one in a truck accident is a devastating experience, both emotionally and financially. In California, families who lose someone due to the negligence of a truck driver or trucking company may be eligible to pursue compensation through a wrongful death claim. Understanding your rights and the legal options available is critical during such a difficult time.

Who Can File a Claim?

In California, certain family members—including spouses, domestic partners, children, and sometimes other dependents—may be legally allowed to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This type of claim seeks to recover compensation for the emotional and financial toll caused by the unexpected loss.

What Types of Compensation Are Available?

If successful, a wrongful death claim can help cover:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of the deceased’s income and financial support
  • Medical bills incurred before death
  • Loss of companionship, guidance, and care

To improve your chances of a fair settlement, it’s important to work with experienced California truck accident attorneys who understand how to navigate the complexities of these claims.

Proving Fault in a Truck Accident

Truck accidents are often more complex than regular car crashes due to the involvement of multiple parties, such as the driver, trucking company, or even the truck’s manufacturer. Establishing liability requires a thorough investigation, accident reconstruction, and analysis of evidence like logbooks, black box data, and maintenance records.

This is why partnering with skilled wrongful death attorneys is crucial. They can handle the legal legwork while you and your family focus on healing.
