Long Beach, California – Authorities reported that a man died after being struck by a semi-truck in West Long Beach on Wednesday night.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the man appeared to be lying on the sidewalk near the intersection of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway at about 8:10 p.m. when the rear wheels of a semi-trailer ran over him as the truck turned south onto Oregon from eastbound PCH.
Paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department provided medical assistance and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the truck driver continued south on Oregon Avenue without stopping or returning to the crash site.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to confirm the man’s identity and notify his family.
Investigators said that at this stage, speeding, intoxication, or distracted driving do not appear to have contributed to the incident.

This marks the 34th traffic-related fatality in Long Beach so far this year. Police records show there were 40 traffic deaths citywide in 2024.
