Encino, California – Authorities are searching for the driver of an Alfa Romeo SUV who fled the scene after crashing into a tree near the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve late Thursday night, leaving two passengers injured.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Woodley Avenue and Burbank Boulevard, close to the San Diego (405) Freeway. According to CBS2, Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to remove one male passenger from the heavily damaged SUV. He was transported to a hospital, along with a second passenger, though their current conditions remain unknown.
Video footage from the scene showed extensive front-end damage to the vehicle and debris, including a detached tire, scattered across the roadway. Witnesses reported that after the collision, the driver abandoned the vehicle and ran away on foot.
Authorities have not released a description of the driver. The investigation into the cause of the crash and the driver’s identity is ongoing.
What to Do if You Are Injured as a Passenger in a Car Crash
Being injured as a passenger in a car accident can be overwhelming, especially when medical bills and lost wages begin to add up. Unlike drivers, passengers are almost never considered at fault, which means you have a strong legal right to pursue compensation for your injuries. The key is knowing what steps to take immediately after the crash.
1. Seek Medical Attention Immediately
Your health is the top priority. Even if your injuries seem minor, some conditions—like concussions or internal injuries—may not show symptoms right away. Visiting a doctor also creates an official record of your injuries, which is critical when filing a claim.
2. Collect Evidence and Information
If possible, document the scene by taking photos of the vehicles, road conditions, and your injuries. Gather the driver’s insurance details, license plate numbers, and contact information for any witnesses. This evidence will strengthen your claim later.
3. File an Insurance Claim
As a passenger, you may be able to file a claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance policy—whether it was the driver of your vehicle or another car involved in the crash. You could also be covered under multiple policies, depending on the circumstances.
4. Contact Experienced Attorneys
