South Los Angeles, California – A motorcyclist lost his life early Sunday morning after colliding with a sedan on the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway in South Los Angeles.
The fatal crash happened around 2:25 a.m. near Budlong Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Preliminary reports indicate that an orange 2015 Harley-Davidson was traveling in the No. 2 lane when it rear-ended a 2023 Toyota Camry. The impact caused the rider to lose control and suffer fatal injuries.
Authorities identified the motorcyclist as Kevin M. White, 37, of Los Angeles, per the CHP and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The 65-year-old driver of the Camry, a Glendale resident, was unharmed, officials said.
The CHP confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
All westbound lanes were temporarily shut down just east of Western Avenue at 2:29 a.m. and reopened at 5:44 a.m.

What to Do If a Loved One Dies in a Motorcycle Accident: Your Legal Options
Losing someone in a motorcycle accident is an unimaginable tragedy. Beyond the emotional devastation, surviving family members are often left facing unexpected financial burdens, medical bills, funeral expenses, and a long list of legal questions. If your loved one died in a motorcycle crash caused by another party’s negligence, you may have the right to seek compensation through a wrongful death claim in California.
Under state law, eligible family members — such as a spouse, children, or parents — can file a lawsuit against the at-fault party. This type of legal action may help recover damages for funeral and burial costs, lost future income, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. An experienced wrongful death attorney can guide you through this complex process and fight for the justice your loved one deserves.
Motorcycle accidents often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the lack of physical protection for the rider. These cases require thorough investigations, including accident reconstruction, eyewitness accounts, and review of traffic camera footage. A skilled motorcycle accidents attorney understands the unique challenges of motorcycle crash claims and can work to establish liability, even when the insurance company attempts to shift blame onto the motorcyclist.
If the accident occurred in the Los Angeles area, a Los Angeles car accident attorney with experience in fatal motorcycle crashes can provide the local knowledge and legal expertise needed to navigate the court system efficiently.
