Sacramento, California – The man fatally struck by a light rail train on Monday has been identified as 37-year-old Rittick Kumar Gupta, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed.
Sacramento police officers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a light rail train shortly before 1:45 p.m. near the intersection of 19th and T Streets.
Authorities say Gupta was riding an electric scooter when the collision occurred.
SPD’s Major Collision Investigation Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, arrived to examine the scene, gather evidence, and speak with witnesses in the area.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Gupta’s family and friends launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe. In the campaign description, they wrote: “Ritick was a kind-hearted, generous, and vibrant soul whose presence brought light into the lives of everyone he met. This sudden and devastating loss has left his family and friends in shock and grief.”

Who Has the Right to Seek Compensation When a Pedestrian Is Killed in an Accident?
In California, when a pedestrian is tragically killed in an accident, certain family members have the legal right to pursue compensation through a wrongful death claim. Eligible parties typically include the victim’s spouse or domestic partner, children, or, if none exist, other dependents such as parents or siblings. These claims aim to cover funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering caused by the loss of a loved one.
Filing a claim can be complex, especially when multiple parties may be involved, such as negligent drivers, public entities, or third-party contractors. That’s why it’s critical to work with experienced wrongful death attorneys who understand how to navigate these sensitive cases. In pedestrian fatality cases, a skilled pedestrian accident attorney can investigate the circumstances thoroughly and help identify all sources of compensation—especially in cities like Sacramento, where traffic-related fatalities are on the rise. If the incident occurred in the area, a Sacramento car accident attorney may also play a key role in building your claim.Don’t wait to take legal action—Megeredchian Law is here to fight for your family’s rights.
