Pomona, California – A woman who died early Monday on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Pomona after a tire broke loose from a truck and crashed through her car’s windshield has been identified as 57-year-old Ingrid Zapata.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 2:26 a.m. on the eastbound 60 Freeway near the Garey Avenue off-ramp.
Footage from the scene showed the white Lexus sedan with its windshield shattered and part of the roof caved in.
Investigators said the truck was traveling westbound when one of its tires came off, bounced across the center divider into the eastbound lanes, and struck Zapata’s vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office released her identity on Tuesday.
All eastbound lanes were closed at 2:37 a.m., and a SigAlert was issued at 3:14 a.m. By 3:58 a.m., all lanes except the slow lane had reopened.
