San Diego, California – A man is in critical condition after being hit by a Tesla while running into traffic in Carmel Valley on Saturday night, authorities reported.
San Diego police said the crash occurred at about 8:45 p.m. at Del Mar Heights Road and Lansdale Drive. An 18-year-old woman driving a Tesla Model 3 was traveling westbound after passing through a green light when the collision happened.
Paramedics responded and rushed the pedestrian to a nearby hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull, multiple broken facial bones, a collapsed lung, and respiratory failure. His current condition has not been released.
According to investigators, the 32-year-old man ran into the intersection from the northeast corner, directly into the Tesla’s path. The driver was unable to stop in time and struck him.
The SDPD Traffic Division is handling the investigation. Authorities ask anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
