[09-09-2025] Los Angeles County, CA – Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Metro Train Near Leimert Park

Los Angeles, California – A pedestrian was struck and killed late Monday night by a Metro E (Expo) Line train just south of the Leimert Park neighborhood, and police are investigating the circumstances of the fatal crash.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday to the 2600 block of Exposition Boulevard near Seventh Avenue, east of the Expo/Crenshaw Station. Authorities said the train was traveling west when it collided with the pedestrian walking near the tracks.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews also responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The person’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.

According to Metro, the incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. Monday when a southbound E Line train made contact with “a trespasser walking on the track between the Expo/Crenshaw and Expo/Western stations.”

“Metro extends its heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and friends,” the agency said in a statement. “Metro encourages the public to observe rail safety guidance and reminds pedestrians that they should only cross tracks at marked street crossings with signals to help ensure their safe passage.”

Normal train service on the line resumed around 5 a.m. Tuesday, officials said.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division is handling the investigation.

What to Do If a Loved One Is Killed in a Train Accident

Losing a family member in a train accident is a devastating experience, and many families are left unsure of what steps to take next. Beyond the emotional toll, there are often financial burdens such as funeral costs, lost income, and medical expenses that make recovery even more difficult. In California, families have legal options to seek justice and compensation through the help of experienced attorneys.

First, it is important to contact wrongful death attorneys who can evaluate your case and explain your rights. Wrongful death claims allow families to pursue financial recovery for the losses caused by another party’s negligence. In train accidents, this can involve the transit authority, operators, or other entities responsible for rail safety.

Families should also seek guidance from pedestrian accident attorneys, since these types of cases often overlap with pedestrian laws and safety regulations. Understanding how liability is established is crucial in order to build a strong case.

In addition, consulting with car accident lawyers in California can be beneficial, since many legal strategies used in vehicle collisions also apply to pedestrian and rail incidents. These attorneys are highly familiar with California’s negligence laws and insurance requirements.

If the accident occurred in Los Angeles, families may find additional support by working with a Los Angeles car accident attorney who understands the complexities of local transit accidents and the resources available in the city.
