San Diego, California – Authorities have released the names of two men who died in separate traffic accidents in the San Diego region over the past week.
On Thursday evening, Alfredo Trevino, 46, of Vista, was fatally injured in a motorcycle crash on state Route 79 in Julian. According to the California Highway Patrol, Trevino lost control of his 2020 Harley-Davidson near Harrison Oak Lake Lane and veered into oncoming traffic. The motorcycle collided with a 2021 Toyota 4Runner, killing Trevino at the scene. His 40-year-old female passenger suffered severe injuries and was transported to Palomar Medical Center. The driver of the SUV, a 29-year-old Julian woman, and her 56-year-old passenger sustained only minor injuries, officials said.
Days earlier, on Labor Day, Curtis Van Atta Jr., 50, of Santee, was involved in a multi-vehicle pileup on Carlton Hills Boulevard. The crash, which occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Sept. 1, caused Van Atta’s sedan to strike a utility pole. Paramedics rushed him to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed both fatalities. CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez said investigations into the circumstances of the crashes remain ongoing.
