[09-11-2025] Los Angeles County, CA – Claremont Crash: 65-Year-Old Tracy Willis Killed in Freeway Collision

Claremont, California – Authorities have identified the driver killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Claremont as 65-year-old Tracy Willis.

The fatal collision occurred around 8 a.m. Saturday on the eastbound 210, just west of Monte Vista Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators said a brown Mini Cooper had become disabled and was stopped, unoccupied, on the right shoulder of the freeway. A white Ford Focus, driven by Willis, drifted to the right and rear-ended the parked Mini Cooper.

Willis sustained major injuries in the crash. Paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m., officials said.

A Sigalert was issued at 8:26 a.m., shutting down lanes three and four of the eastbound freeway while officers conducted their investigation. The lanes were reopened about an hour later, at 9:35 a.m.

The CHP is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.

What to Know About Accidents Involving Disabled Vehicles on the Shoulder

When a vehicle becomes disabled and stops on the shoulder of a freeway, it creates a dangerous situation for both the driver of the stopped vehicle and other motorists on the road. Even when a car is unoccupied, as in the recent Claremont crash, the risk of a rear-end collision remains high. Factors such as driver distraction, fatigue, or drifting into the shoulder can quickly turn a breakdown into a tragic accident.

In California, determining liability in these cases depends on the circumstances. If a driver crashes into a disabled vehicle, investigators will look at whether the vehicle was properly pulled over, had hazard lights on, or was posing an unavoidable obstruction. Families of victims may pursue claims for damages and wrongful death when negligence is involved. This is where experienced wrongful death attorneys can step in to protect the rights of surviving loved ones.

Victims of serious crashes also benefit from working with knowledgeable car accident lawyers in California who understand state traffic laws, insurance negotiations, and how to pursue compensation for medical costs, lost income, and pain and suffering.
