[10-28-2025] Orange County, CA – Irving Jose Orozco Gomez Identified as Victim in Fatal Crash on Santa Ana Freeway in Irvine

Irvine, California – Authorities have identified the man who died Monday morning in a multi-vehicle collision that caused major traffic delays on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Irvine.

The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes near Sand Canyon Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators said the driver of an Infiniti, later identified as Irving Jose Orozco Gomez, 26, of Los Angeles, was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he approached stopped traffic and slammed into the rear of a Jeep in the fast lane. The impact pushed the Jeep into a Mazda SUV.

Orozco Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, while the Mazda driver was treated at the scene for complaints of pain, CHP Officer Fernando Perez said.

The collision led to significant traffic congestion in both directions of the freeway. All northbound lanes were initially shut down, but one lane was reopened about 20 minutes after the incident, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
