San Diego, California – A 55-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized with serious leg injuries Wednesday night after being struck by an SUV in San Diego’s Pacific Beach neighborhood, authorities reported.
The collision happened around 8 p.m. near 1100 Grand Avenue, close to the intersection with Everts Street, according to the San Diego Police Department. Officers said the man was attempting to turn when he entered the eastbound No. 1 lane and was hit by a 23-year-old woman driving a Ford Escape.
Emergency responders found the bicyclist down on the roadway and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for an open tibia-fibula fracture and a broken femur.
Police said the driver remained at the scene. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation by the SDPD Traffic Division.
