Sanger, California – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man who died in a hit-and-run collision in Fresno County earlier this week.
According to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as 44-year-old Adan Ochoa, a resident of Reedley. He was fatally struck by a vehicle near the city of Sanger.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and deputies from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday and discovered Ochoa’s body on the south shoulder of Jensen Avenue, just east of Del Rey Avenue. CHP confirmed that he was deceased upon their arrival.
Investigators say evidence collected at the scene suggests that the suspect vehicle may be a dark gray metallic Toyota Avalon, which likely sustained damage to its front-right side.
CHP also credited tips from members of the community in helping to identify a possible suspect vehicle and related residence. However, the identity of the suspected driver is currently being withheld as the investigation and forensic review continue.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol at 559-262-0400.

Can Families Seek Compensation in Fatal Hit-and-Run Cases?
Yes — families can pursue compensation if a loved one dies in a hit-and-run accident. Under California law, surviving family members may file a wrongful death claim to recover damages for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, lost income, and emotional suffering.
When a driver flees the scene of a fatal crash, the case becomes more complex. However, working with experienced wrongful death attorneys and hit and run accident attorneys can help families navigate the legal process, even when the responsible party is initially unknown.
Investigators often rely on witness reports, surveillance footage, and forensic evidence to identify the driver. Once located, that driver can be held both criminally and civilly liable. In some cases, victims may also pursue compensation through uninsured motorist coverage.
