South Los Angeles, California – Authorities are searching for the driver of a Porsche Panamera who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles that claimed the life of 26-year-old Emerson Noel Escobar Gonzalez.
The deadly collision happened around 9:20 p.m. on July 5 at the intersection of Figueroa Street and 91st Street. Police say a woman in her 30s was driving southbound on Figueroa when she slammed into Escobar’s vehicle as it crossed the intersection.
Instead of helping the victim, the driver and two female passengers got out of the Porsche, removed items from the trunk, and walked away, leaving Escobar trapped inside his car. Cellphone video captured by a bystander shows witnesses pleading with the women to stop and assist the injured man. Escobar was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department crews.
Detectives described the suspects’ actions as callous and reckless. “This wasn’t just a crash — it was a crime,” investigators said. “They abandoned a dying man instead of offering help.”
The Los Angeles Police Department announced it will release surveillance footage from the night of the crash, hoping it will help identify those responsible. A $50,000 reward is also being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver.
Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Ryan Moreno or Officer Joseph Cha at the LAPD South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or at lacrimestoppers.org.
Hit-and-Run Fatality: Steps to Recover Financial Compensation
Losing a loved one in a hit-and-run accident is one of the most devastating situations a family can experience. Beyond the emotional pain, families are often left wondering how they can obtain justice and recover financial compensation after such a tragedy. Although every case is unique, there are clear legal steps available that can help survivors seek the support they deserve.
Step 1: Contact Experienced Wrongful Death Attorneys
In fatal collisions, families may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. These cases allow surviving spouses, children, or dependents to seek compensation for funeral expenses, medical costs, lost future income, and the emotional suffering caused by their loss. Working with skilled attorneys ensures that no legal option is overlooked.
Step 2: Gather Evidence and Identify the Driver
Hit-and-run cases can be challenging, as the responsible driver often flees the scene. Police reports, surveillance footage, and witness statements are crucial in identifying the suspect. Families can also work with hit and run accident attorneys who know how to build strong cases, even when the driver initially remains unknown.
Step 3: Understand Pedestrian Accident Rights
When the victim is a pedestrian, different legal considerations may apply. Specialized pedestrian accident attorneys can evaluate whether crosswalk laws, driver negligence, or other factors strengthen the claim for compensation. These cases often highlight how vulnerable pedestrians are and how reckless driving can lead to life-changing consequences.
Step 4: Explore Insurance and Civil Claims
Even if the at-fault driver is not immediately caught, compensation may still be possible through uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage or civil claims once the driver is located. A knowledgeable Los Angeles car accident attorney can explain how these options apply in California wrongful death cases.
Step 5: Take Immediate Legal Action
Time is critical after a fatal hit-and-run. California law places strict deadlines (statutes of limitation) on when families can file claims. Acting quickly ensures that evidence is preserved and your rights are protected.
