Los Angeles, California – Authorities have identified the man killed Monday afternoon in a crash on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass as 42-year-old Bernardo Borges Dreher.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Dreher had been standing outside a stopped vehicle on the right side of the freeway near Sepulveda Boulevard when he was struck at about 1:55 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
Video from the site showed a body covered with a tarp near a vehicle on the shoulder, with a gas can also visible beside it. A flatbed truck, believed to be the vehicle that struck Dreher, was stopped a short distance away.
KTLA5 reported that the truck driver underwent a field sobriety test before being taken into custody.
The crash prompted the closure of all southbound lanes except the carpool lane as investigators worked at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed Dreher’s identity on Tuesday morning.
