Can You Track Down a Hit-and-Run Driver and File a Claim?

Yes. Even though a hit-and-run accident can leave victims feeling helpless, it’s often possible to identify the driver and pursue financial compensation through a civil claim. Law enforcement agencies use traffic cameras, nearby surveillance footage, eyewitness statements, and vehicle debris to locate those responsible. Once identified, the driver can face both criminal charges and civil liability for the victim’s injuries or death.

If the driver cannot be found, victims may still file an insurance claim under their uninsured motorist (UM) coverage, which covers medical bills, lost income, and other damages. When the crash results in a fatality, families can seek justice with the help of experienced wrongful death attorneys.
