Arleta, California – Authorities have identified the man killed in a fiery crash early Saturday morning on the transition road connecting the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway to the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway in Arleta.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the victim as 20-year-old Sebastian Arredondo, who died from inhalation of combustion products and thermal injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:17 a.m. Saturday when a car hit the center divider of the transition ramp, veered across all lanes, and struck a tree on the right shoulder. The impact caused both the vehicle and the tree to become engulfed in flames, witnesses reported.

Arredondo was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

A SigAlert was issued at 4:05 a.m., closing all but the HOV lane on the transition road. The alert was lifted shortly after 8 a.m., according to CHP officials.

The incident remains under investigation.

Is Compensation Available After a Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash?

In California, families may still be entitled to compensation even when a loved one dies in a single-vehicle accident — depending on what caused the crash. While it might seem that no one else is responsible, many fatal solo accidents are linked to road hazards, defective auto parts, or unsafe property conditions.

If negligence played a role, surviving family members can pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party. For example, if a poorly maintained roadway, faulty guardrail, or unsafe construction zone contributed to the crash, you may have grounds for legal action. In such cases, working with experienced wrongful death attorneys or premises liability attorneys can help determine who is liable and how much compensation your family may be owed.

Compensation in these cases may include funeral expenses, lost income, and the emotional suffering caused by the loss of a loved one. Our car accident lawyers in California have handled numerous single-vehicle fatal crash cases where third-party negligence was ultimately proven. If your loved one died in a solo crash, you don’t have to face the legal process alone.
