[10-16-2025] Los Angeles County, CA – Woman Critically Injured in Double Hit-and-Run Crash in Downtown Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California – A woman was left in critical condition after being struck by two vehicles in a double hit-and-run crash earlier this month on the south side of downtown Los Angeles, police said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred around 5:45 a.m. on October 5 at the intersection of Central Avenue and 14th Place.

Authorities said the woman was crossing the street when she was first hit by a dark-colored Ford Explorer, model year between 2018 and 2025, traveling south on Central Avenue. The impact threw her several feet across the roadway, where she was then struck a second time by a blue compact SUV, possibly a 2007–2011 Honda CR-V.

Neither driver stopped to help the victim and both continued southbound on Central Avenue, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for life-threatening injuries.

Investigators from the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division have released images of the two vehicles involved and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the drivers.

How Pedestrians Can Claim Compensation After a Two-Vehicle Hit-and-Run Crash

Being struck by one vehicle is devastating enough—but when a pedestrian is hit twice and both drivers flee the scene, the aftermath can feel overwhelming. Victims and their families are often left facing medical debt, long recovery periods, and uncertainty about who will pay for the damages. Fortunately, under California law, you still have the right to pursue compensation—even when the at-fault drivers cannot be immediately identified.

Understanding Two-Vehicle Hit-and-Run Crashes

A two-vehicle hit-and-run crash happens when a pedestrian is struck by more than one vehicle, and both drivers fail to stop or render aid as required by law. These incidents often occur in low-visibility areas, during early morning hours, or when traffic is light—conditions that make identifying the vehicles more difficult.

Police investigations, witness statements, and nearby surveillance footage are crucial for tracking down the responsible parties. Even if the drivers are not found immediately, California has mechanisms in place to help victims recover compensation.

Who Pays for Your Injuries If the Drivers Flee?

When both drivers escape the scene, your hit and run accident attorneys can explore multiple legal avenues to help you recover damages:

  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UM/UIM): If you or someone in your household has auto insurance, this coverage may apply even though you were a pedestrian. It can cover medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
  • Medical Payments Coverage (MedPay): Some policies include MedPay, which can pay for immediate medical treatment regardless of who was at fault.
  • Victim Compensation Programs: The California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB) can provide assistance for those injured in crimes such as hit-and-run collisions.
  • Civil Action Against Identified Drivers: If the police later locate either driver, your attorney can file a civil claim seeking damages for negligence and failure to render aid.

Compensation You May Be Entitled To

A qualified pedestrian accident lawyer in California can help you pursue compensation for:

  • Emergency medical expenses and ongoing care
  • Lost income and reduced earning capacity
  • Physical pain and emotional distress
  • Long-term disabilities or mobility limitations
  • Rehabilitation and therapy costs

If the collision resulted in catastrophic or permanent injuries, your attorney will calculate both economic and non-economic damages to ensure you receive full compensation under California law.
