Rosemead, California – Authorities have identified the man who was fatally struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Rosemead as 30-year-old Aric Verador Mesina.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 5:55 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just west of Rosemead Boulevard. Investigators said Mesina was walking on the freeway when he was struck by one or more vehicles.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Mesina’s identity but did not immediately release his city of residence.
All lanes were reopened by 9:11 a.m., after authorities cleared the scene and completed their initial investigation. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation by the CHP.
Can You File a Claim if a Pedestrian Is Killed on the Freeway?
Yes. When a pedestrian is killed on a freeway, their family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim against the party or parties responsible. These tragic accidents often involve complex liability issues — multiple drivers, unclear visibility, or road design factors — making it crucial to have a legal team experienced in both pedestrian and freeway accidents.
A skilled pedestrian accident lawyer in California can help determine who is liable, gather evidence such as police reports and surveillance footage, and file a claim for damages on behalf of the victim’s family. Compensation may include funeral expenses, loss of financial support, emotional suffering, and more.
If negligence — such as distracted or reckless driving — led to the pedestrian’s death, a wrongful death attorney in California can represent surviving family members and ensure the responsible driver is held accountable.
