El Monte, California – A suspect was taken into custody late Tuesday night after leading police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in a violent multi-vehicle collision in El Monte, authorities said.
The chase began around 10:10 p.m. on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, though it was not immediately clear where the pursuit originated. According to KABC 7, the suspect exited the freeway and slammed into several vehicles at the intersection of North Santa Anita and East Garvey avenues. One of the cars overturned due to the impact.
Video footage obtained by KeyNews.TV showed multiple cars with severe damage scattered across the intersection as police and emergency crews responded to the scene.
KABC 7 also reported that the suspect was already on probation for another felony charge at the time of the arrest. Officials with the El Monte Police Department have not yet released further details or confirmed any injuries stemming from the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Can You Get Compensation After a Multi-Vehicle Crash If the Driver Responsible Was Arrested?
Yes. Even if the driver who caused the crash has been arrested, you can still file a personal injury or property damage claim to recover compensation. The criminal case against the driver is separate from your civil claim — meaning you still have the right to pursue damages through their insurance company or, in some cases, directly from the driver.
If you were injured in the collision, you can file a claim through a car accident law firm that handles complex multi-vehicle crashes. Skilled car accident lawyers in California can help identify all liable parties — including the arrested driver, other motorists, or even commercial vehicle owners — and ensure that evidence from the police investigation strengthens your civil case.
If the accident occurred in Los Angeles County, a Los Angeles car accident attorney can represent you throughout the process, from filing insurance claims to negotiating for maximum compensation. For a free consultation and to discuss your legal options, contact Megeredchian Law at (866) 359-0807.
