San Diego, California – Authorities on Monday publicly identified four people who died in separate traffic accidents across the San Diego region over the past 10 days, according to the County Medical Examiner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
The most recent fatality occurred at about 11:15 p.m. Friday, when a vehicle struck Keondre Alejandre, 32, as he was walking across the intersection of Camino Del Rio West and Hancock Street in the Midway district. Paramedics rushed Alejandre to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead early Saturday morning.
Last Wednesday, shortly after noon, Debra Villasenor, 66, of Alpine, was fatally injured when the SUV she was driving veered off the eastbound state Route 52 exit to Mast Boulevard in San Carlos and crashed into a light pole. She died at the scene, officials said.
A pedestrian fatality occurred the prior Monday in Oceanside. Cesar Contreras, 59, was struck by an SUV at about 6:45 p.m. at Francesca Drive and Mission Avenue. Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
Another deadly crash happened Nov. 7 on Interstate 5 in Sorrento Valley. John Lim, 65, of San Diego, had just entered the northbound side of the freeway from Genesee Avenue when his Hyundai Sonata veered across lanes at high speed, striking the center-divider barrier. The impact sent the vehicle back across the roadway, where it collided with a freeway sign and guardrail at the Sorrento Valley Road offramp.
Lim became trapped in the vehicle and died before he could be taken to a hospital. The Medical Examiner has ruled his death a natural one caused by heart failure.
Authorities continue investigating the circumstances of all four fatalities.
