Alhambra, California – A high-speed police pursuit ended in tragedy early Thursday morning when a woman was killed and at least three others — including an Alhambra Police Department officer — were injured in a violent multi-vehicle crash at Valley Boulevard and Fremont Avenue.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. as officers were responding to a pursuit in the area. During the chase, multiple vehicles collided, and a woman was ejected from a gray SUV, according to ABC7. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer involved was reportedly unconscious after the crash and was transported in critical condition to Los Angeles General Medical Center. Two additional victims were also taken to a hospital, though their conditions have not been disclosed.
Fox 11 reported that a man was taken into custody at the scene, but it remains unclear whether he was involved in the pursuit or the crash itself.
Video captured by KeyNews.TV showed significant wreckage, including a heavily damaged police cruiser. Authorities have not yet determined what triggered the pursuit.
California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service that CHP is assisting Alhambra police with the investigation.
Can You File a Wrongful Death Claim After a Police Pursuit, and Who Is Liable?
Yes. Families can file a wrongful death claim if a police pursuit results in a fatal crash, including deaths involving innocent bystanders, passengers, or drivers caught in the path of the chase. Liability depends on the circumstances, and multiple parties may be legally responsible. In many cases, the fleeing driver is the primary liable party. However, if officers acted negligently — for example, engaging in a high-speed pursuit in unsafe conditions, violating pursuit policies, or failing to use reasonable care — the police department or the city may also share responsibility. A wrongful death attorney in California can investigate the pursuit footage, dispatch records, and agency policies to determine whether law enforcement negligence contributed to the fatality.
Because these cases often involve multiple agencies and conflicting reports, it is essential to work with a highly experienced car accident law firm. Skilled car accident lawyers in California can help identify all responsible parties — including the fleeing suspect, the pursuing officers, the police department, or the municipality — and pursue compensation for funeral costs, lost income, emotional suffering, and more. If the crash occurred in Los Angeles or surrounding areas, a Los Angeles car accident attorney can help families navigate California’s wrongful death laws and claim the maximum compensation available.Megeredchian Law offers experienced, aggressive legal representation for families affected by wrongful death caused by police pursuits.
