Huntington Beach, California – Authorities are investigating a violent seven-vehicle crash that left a 37-year-old man dead and several others injured, including two Orange County Probation Department officers.
The collision occurred around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Goldenwest Street and Heil Avenue, according to Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla.
A preliminary investigation found that a gray Tesla Model 3 was traveling eastbound on Heil Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control while crossing Goldenwest Street. The Tesla collided with multiple vehicles, and debris from the impacts struck additional cars nearby, police said. The Tesla rolled over several times before coming to rest east of the intersection.
Huntington Beach Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the Tesla driver dead at the scene. A witness told CBS LA the Tesla may have been traveling over 100 mph and clipped another vehicle at the intersection before the chain-reaction crash.
Three victims — including an Orange County Probation Department officer — were transported to hospitals in stable condition. Several others were treated at the scene.
