Palmdale, California – Authorities have identified the woman who was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning in Palmdale as 38-year-old Jeanette Garcia.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal incident occurred around 4:13 a.m. near 20th Street East and Avenue S. Garcia was reportedly pushing a shopping cart across Avenue S when she was struck by a light blue 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis traveling westbound in the left lane.
The driver did not stop to render aid or call 911 and continued driving out of view, deputies said. Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced Garcia dead.
Investigators later located both the suspect and the vehicle at a Palmdale address. The driver was arrested on multiple felony charges, and the Grand Marquis was impounded as evidence. Officials also confirmed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Detective Knutson at the Palmdale Sheriff Station
Can You Still Get Compensation if the Driver Fled the Scene and Someone Died?
Yes. Even if the driver fled the scene, families can still pursue compensation through civil action with the help of experienced hit and run accident attorneys. When a fatal crash occurs, surviving family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim with the assistance of a qualified wrongful death attorney in California. This type of claim allows victims’ families to recover damages such as funeral costs, loss of income, emotional suffering, and other related expenses.
Even if the at-fault driver has not been identified yet, a skilled car accident law firm can explore alternative options such as uninsured motorist coverage or victim compensation funds. The process is complex, but with the right legal representation, families can still fight for justice and full compensation.
