Long Beach, California – A man lost his life after being struck by his own semi-truck during a two-vehicle crash in Long Beach on the morning of June 18.
The Long Beach Police Department responded to the scene around 6:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue. According to early findings, the man had parked his semi-truck near the curb and was standing outside the vehicle near the engine compartment when a second semi-truck collided with it from behind.
The impact of the crash pushed the parked vehicle forward, knocking the man to the ground. He was then run over by his own truck, which had been forced ahead by the collision. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the second truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. At this time, investigators do not believe speed, impairment, or distraction played a role in the crash.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld until family members can be notified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Detective Ashley Van Holland at the Long Beach Police Department at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
