Los Angeles – A deadly multi-car collision early Monday morning resulted in the death of one person and sent two others — including a law enforcement officer — to the hospital, prompting a full closure of the southbound 405 Freeway through the Brentwood area of Los Angeles.
The crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near Moraga Drive, just north of Sunset Boulevard.
Footage from the scene showed a severely damaged pickup truck and a sedan with deployed airbags stopped in the southbound lanes while emergency crews worked to secure the area.
One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, though their identity has not yet been released.
Two more people, including the officer, were transported to nearby hospitals. Their conditions remain unknown.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s incident report, the officer was found unresponsive at the scene. The agency did not confirm which department the officer belonged to. Video from the scene showed medics performing CPR on someone believed to be the officer as they were taken into the hospital.
A helicopter briefly landed on the freeway, possibly to assist with emergency transport.
As of 4:30 a.m., all southbound lanes remained closed. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
