Two-Car Crash on I-15

San Bernardino, California – Nine individuals were taken to the hospital Sunday morning following a two-vehicle accident on the I-15 Freeway in San Bernardino County, according to local authorities.

The crash occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, just north of Baker, the San Bernardino County Fire Department reported. While the exact cause of the collision was not disclosed, images shared on X depicted two heavily damaged vehicles resting in the brush off the shoulder of the freeway.

One of the vehicles, a black sedan, suffered significant damage to its front end. The second car—believed to be a silver or gray Prius—appeared coated in dirt, with major damage to the front and roof, including a shattered windshield and crushed top. The back portions of both vehicles were not visible in the photos.

“San Bernardino County Fire crews responded this morning to a two-car crash on I-15 southbound that resulted in nine patients requiring hospital transport,” the department stated. “Four of those individuals were airlifted by helicopter to regional medical centers.”

Although there was no fire and no one had to be rescued from the wreckage, responders determined that all nine adults sustained injuries requiring medical care. The injuries ranged from moderate to serious, and officials have not released the identities or current conditions of those hurt.

Emergency response included four ground ambulances and three helicopters, with traffic temporarily halted to allow for helicopter landings on the freeway. A fourth helicopter later met one of the ambulances at a hospital to assist in continued transport.

Authorities confirmed that the freeway has since reopened to normal traffic flow.

Who Is at Fault in a Two-Car Freeway Crash?

Determining fault in a two-car freeway crash depends on the circumstances of the collision, the actions of each driver, and the available evidence. In California, liability is based on negligence—meaning the driver who acted carelessly or violated traffic laws is usually held responsible. Common causes include speeding, unsafe lane changes, distracted driving, or following too closely. To prove fault, evidence such as dashcam footage, witness statements, police reports, and crash scene photos may be used.

In some cases, both drivers may share fault. Under California’s comparative negligence laws, each driver can be assigned a percentage of liability. That means even if you’re partially at fault, you may still be entitled to compensation—just reduced by your percentage of fault. If injuries or fatalities are involved, consulting with experienced california car accident lawyers or wrongful death attorneys is critical to protect your rights.

If your crash happened in the Inland Empire, a san bernardino car accident attorney can guide you through the legal process, negotiate with insurers, and help determine fault based on local traffic conditions and law.Injured in a freeway crash?
