Los Angeles, California – A 30-year-old man who died after being hit by a vehicle in downtown Los Angeles has been identified by county officials as Matthew Himendigger.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded around 1:53 a.m. Saturday to a reported crash at the intersection of South Main Street and East Seventh Street. When they arrived, they found Himendigger trapped beneath a Toyota Prius, an LAPD spokesperson told City News Service.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews freed Himendigger from underneath the vehicle and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Witnesses at the scene reported that the Prius dragged Himendigger for at least a block before coming to a stop.
Police say the driver of the Prius was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.
