South Los Angeles, California – Authorities are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that left a bicyclist dead on a South Los Angeles street early Monday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred around 1:20 a.m. at San Pedro Street and East 95th Street in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood.
Investigators said the victim was crossing San Pedro Street with his dog following nearby when an unidentified vehicle struck him. The impact scattered debris across the roadway, including food, bicycle parts, and what appeared to be a recycling cart.
The dog was unharmed and later taken in by a local volunteer group.
Paramedics pronounced the man, believed to be between 50 and 60 years old, dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.
Mourners gathered at the intersection later that day, telling FOX 11 the victim had been out collecting recyclables when he was struck. Friends and neighbors said he was often seen in the area with his dog, describing him as a kind man who never caused problems.
Detectives from the LAPD Southeast Division are reviewing surveillance footage and searching for additional evidence. So far, no description of the driver or vehicle has been provided. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact investigators.
