Acton, California – Two young men lost their lives early Tuesday morning after a violent head-on collision on Sierra Highway in Acton, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 6:20 a.m. near Sierra Highway, just south of Crown Valley Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators say a black Infiniti Q50, driven by 22-year-old Maximus Calzada of Canyon Country, lost control for reasons still under investigation. The Infiniti veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a blue Honda Odyssey driven by 57-year-old S. Hernandez-Trinidad of Santa Clarita.
Calzada and his front passenger, Pedro Gomez, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene. A rear passenger in the Infiniti, G. Gonzalez, 22, also of Canyon Country, was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries. Detectives later confirmed that both Calzada and Gomez were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Hernandez-Trinidad was transported to a hospital with severe but undisclosed injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role. Toxicology results are pending.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact CHP Antelope Valley Area Officer D. Morales at 661-743-6060. Calls outside business hours may be directed to the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
