Panorama City, California – Authorities have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run crash while riding a motorized scooter in Panorama City as 34-year-old Gary Schombert.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Schombert was traveling north on Woodman Avenue near Strathern Street around 9:35 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a gray Honda sedan, also heading northbound. The impact ejected him from the scooter and left him lying in the roadway.
Moments later, a second vehicle struck the scooter. Police said that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Paramedics responded but pronounced Schombert dead at the scene.
The driver of the gray Honda fled the area and remains at large. Detectives are urging anyone with information to contact the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8025. During non-business hours, tips can be shared at 877-527-3247, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
