Huntington Beach, California – Authorities are investigating a fatal collision Thursday night that left both a pedestrian and a motorcyclist dead.
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, officers responded at around 8:27 p.m. to the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Ellis Avenue, where they found two men unconscious in the roadway — the driver of a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a 45-year-old Los Angeles resident, and a 46-year-old pedestrian from Huntington Beach.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Beach Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.
Paramedics with the Huntington Beach Fire Department arrived shortly after and pronounced both victims dead at the scene. Investigators have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The Huntington Beach Police Department’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is handling the case. Officials are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or events leading up to it to contact Traffic Investigator V. Rattanchandani at (714) 536-5231.
Can Compensation Be Claimed If Both Victims Died in a Crash?
Yes. Even when both victims die in a fatal crash—such as a collision between a motorcycle and a pedestrian—their surviving family members may still have the right to seek compensation through a wrongful death claim.
Each family can file a separate claim for the loss of their loved one. For instance, if a motorcycle rider and a pedestrian both lost their lives, the pedestrian’s family could pursue damages with the help of experienced pedestrian accident attorneys, while the rider’s family could work with skilled motorcycle accident attorneys to recover compensation for funeral costs, lost income, and emotional suffering.
Because fault can be shared or disputed in these complex cases, having knowledgeable wrongful death attorneys on your side is essential. They can investigate the crash, determine liability, and ensure both families’ rights are protected. If you lost a loved one in a fatal motorcycle or pedestrian accident, contact Megeredchian Law today at (866) 359-0807 for a free consultation.
