Long Beach, California – Authorities have identified the driver killed in a violent three-vehicle collision Saturday evening in Long Beach as Regionald Craig, 61, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. near Long Beach Boulevard and East San Antonio Drive, where police say a speeding 2005 Nissan Altima traveling northbound rear-ended a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The impact sent the Jeep off the roadway, across the pedestrian sidewalk, and into a fire hydrant before it ultimately collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban parked nearby, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Officers found Craig inside the Altima, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His city of residence was not immediately available.
The drivers of both the Jeep Cherokee and Chevrolet Suburban stayed at the location and cooperated with investigators. LBPD noted that speed and possible impairment are being examined as contributing factors.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Long Beach police at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
Your Legal Options After a Fatal Multi-Car Crash
A fatal multi-vehicle collision creates a complex legal situation where multiple drivers, insurance companies, and even public entities may be involved. Understanding your rights is essential, and working with a reputable car accident law firm can help you protect your family’s eligibility for compensation under California law.
Who May Be Liable in a Fatal Multi-Car Crash
In multi-vehicle accidents, fault can be shared among several parties. Depending on the facts, responsibility may fall on negligent drivers, commercial carriers, uninsured motorists, or—even in rare cases—government agencies for unsafe road conditions. An experienced wrongful death attorney california can investigate collision reports, witness statements, vehicle damage, and traffic-camera footage to determine who must be held financially accountable.
What Compensation Families May Claim
Surviving family members may be able to pursue wrongful death damages for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, loss of financial support, and the decedent’s medical bills prior to death. Skilled car accident lawyers in california can also seek additional compensation when gross negligence, drunk driving, or excessive speeding contributed to the crash. If the collision occurred locally, a los angeles car accident attorney or a car accident attorney in Long Beach can guide you through each step of the claims process.
How an Attorney Strengthens Your Case
Wrongful death cases involving multiple vehicles typically require accident reconstruction experts, insurance negotiations with several parties, and strict compliance with California’s statute of limitations. A dedicated firm will handle the full investigation, preserve evidence, communicate with insurers, and pursue the maximum compensation your family deserves—so you never have to face this burden alone.
