Filing a Compensation Claim After a Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash

Being involved in a motorcycle accident is traumatic enough—but when the at-fault driver flees the scene, it adds an extra layer of stress and uncertainty. If you’ve been injured in a hit-and-run motorcycle crash, you still have legal options. Here’s how to protect your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.

1. Seek Immediate Medical Attention

Your health should be the top priority. Even if injuries seem minor, get evaluated by a medical professional. Medical records will also serve as essential evidence in your claim.

2. Report the Accident to the Police

Always file a police report. Provide as much detail as possible—vehicle type, license plate (if known), direction of travel, and any witness information. A police report helps establish the facts of the crash and supports your compensation claim.

3. Gather Any Available Evidence

If you’re able, take photos or videos of the accident scene, your injuries, damage to your motorcycle, and any debris left behind. Ask nearby businesses or residences if their security cameras may have captured the incident.

4. Consult with a Motorcycle Accident Attorney

Hit-and-run cases can be legally complex, especially when the responsible party is unknown. An experienced motorcycle accidents attorney can guide you through the process, notify your insurance company, and help maximize your compensation.

5. Explore Legal Options for Compensation

You may be entitled to recover costs for:

  • Medical bills and future treatment
  • Lost wages and diminished earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Motorcycle repair or replacement

If the hit-and-run driver is identified, your hit and run accident attorney can pursue a claim against their insurance. If not, your uninsured motorist policy may be the next step.
