San Bernardino, California – A deadly accident involving a motorcycle and an SUV took place Thursday afternoon on the southbound side of the I-215 Freeway near Palm Avenue, leading authorities to temporarily shut down all traffic lanes.

The collision occurred around 1:12 p.m. on May 29, 2025, and involved a gray Ford SUV and a motorcycle, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident log.

Shortly after the crash, Caltrans crews began placing cones on the roadway as both lanes became obstructed.

At 1:14 p.m., CHP logs noted a serious impact, stating, “MC RIDER SMASHED UP AGAINST THE CD.” By 1:18 p.m., all lanes were fully stopped, and officials called for a complete lane closure.

Tow services and the county coroner were dispatched to the scene, with the coroner being notified at 1:39 p.m.

By 1:31 p.m., investigators had begun taking measurements, and traffic officials indicated that one lane might reopen within 15 minutes.

The incident caused significant traffic congestion, with delays stretching south to the I-215/I-15 interchange and northbound backups reaching the 210 Freeway.

The motorcyclist’s identity has not been released, and the exact cause of the accident is still being determined.
