Palmdale, California – A man from Palmdale died over the weekend due to injuries he sustained in a suspected hit-and-run crash involving his SUV and a semi-truck in Phelan last week, authorities reported.
Aaron Graham, 37, passed away Saturday at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
The collision occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Thursday on eastbound Highway 138, just east of Gramercy Road.
CHP officials stated that Graham had been driving a BMW X7 heading eastbound when he collided with the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling ahead of him.
“The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation,” the CHP noted in a written release.
Graham was discovered unconscious inside the SUV and transported by paramedics to the hospital, where he remained until he died from his injuries.
When officers arrived at the scene, the truck involved had already left the area, according to the CHP.
A short time later, investigators located the suspected semi-truck about a mile away on Hess Road. The truck driver and a male passenger inside the rig were unharmed, authorities said.
No arrests were made at the time, but the investigation is ongoing, with potential hit-and-run charges being considered against the truck driver.
Alcohol or drug impairment is not believed to have played a role in the incident.
Witnesses or anyone with relevant information are encouraged to contact Officer E. Reed at the CHP Victorville Area Office by calling (760) 241-1186.
