Long Beach, California – Authorities on Monday identified a 56-year-old man who died after being hit by multiple vehicles on a heavily trafficked street in Long Beach.
The fatal incident took place around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Ocean Boulevard near Ninth Place, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Jack Crabtree, speaking to City News Service.
According to police, the man was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Falcon Avenue when a dark-colored sedan traveling eastbound struck him and fled the scene.
Shortly afterward, a 2016 BMW X3, also heading eastbound on Ocean Boulevard, hit the pedestrian while he was already down. The driver, a 59-year-old from Tustin, stopped immediately after realizing a collision had occurred, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
A third vehicle, described as another dark-colored sedan traveling in the same direction, also struck the victim and fled the area, police said.
“At this point, speed and driver distraction are being looked at as possible contributing factors in the two hit-and-run collisions,” the police department stated.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. On Monday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified him as Kristen Advanis.
Investigators are asking anyone with details about the incident to contact the Long Beach Police Department at 562-570-7355. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submit tips at lacrimestoppers.org.
