West Hollywood, California – Law enforcement officials are investigating a deadly hit-and-run collision that took the life of a bicyclist late Thursday night in West Hollywood.

The crash happened around 9:47 p.m. near the intersection of Fountain Avenue and Gardner Street, according to the West Hollywood Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators say the cyclist was heading westbound on Fountain Avenue when he was struck from behind by an older white BMW sedan, also traveling west. The driver failed to stop and continued fleeing westbound on Fountain Avenue.

Emergency personnel transported the injured bicyclist to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, pending notification of his family.

Authorities believe the suspect vehicle may have a shattered windshield on the passenger side. They are asking the public for assistance in locating the car and identifying the driver.

The cause of the crash remains under active investigation. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
