Long Beach, California – Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating witnesses to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a man walking his bicycle along a city street.
The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Pacific Place and Wardlow Road.
Responding officers found Long Beach Fire Department personnel already rendering aid to the pedestrian, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said the victim had been walking his bicycle eastbound across Pacific Place, outside of a marked crosswalk, when a northbound 2012 Toyota Corolla struck him. Police said the driver remained at the scene, cooperated with authorities, and showed no signs of impairment. Excessive speed was also ruled out as a factor.
