Bakersfield, California – A cyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle in southwest Bakersfield on Tuesday morning.
According to police, officers responded at about 6:19 a.m. to the 900 block of Mohawk Street after receiving a report of a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle. When they arrived, they found the cyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the preliminary findings indicate a vehicle was heading north on Mohawk Street when a cyclist traveling west on Tower Way did not stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, where the vehicle struck them.
The driver stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. Police confirmed that speed and impairment were not contributing factors for the driver.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The 900 block of Mohawk Street runs north and south, with two lanes of traffic in each direction.
