Chasie Aquino Carino

Bakersfield, California – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who lost her life in a suspected DUI collision in southwest Bakersfield as 23-year-old Chasie Aquino Carino of Delano.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the crash occurred on August 24, 2025, at about 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of Panama Lane and Stine Road. Officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision and discovered two heavily damaged cars just west of the crossing.

Carino was found in the roadway with critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said a vehicle traveling westbound struck another traveling southbound through the intersection. The southbound driver was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Carino, who was riding as a passenger, was ejected from the vehicle during the impact. The westbound driver sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized.

Authorities believe both speed and alcohol played a role in the crash.

While officers were still working the scene, a car drove through traffic cones and police vehicles blocking the roadway and entered the crash area. That driver, a man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Kern County Jail. Shortly after, another vehicle breached the barricade, driving eastbound in westbound lanes through the scene. The woman behind the wheel was also suspected of DUI, detained, and booked into jail.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
