Los Angeles, California – Authorities have identified the man killed in a violent crash in Boyle Heights that also left three women injured.

The victim, 24-year-old Eric Ramos, was riding in the front passenger seat of a pickup truck when it slammed into a parked vehicle Sunday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision occurred around 4:20 p.m. at 100 N. Chicago Street and First Street, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. Three women riding in the back of the pickup were ejected from the truck. One suffered critical injuries and two others were listed in serious condition. Paramedics transported all three to a nearby trauma center.

Firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to free one of the victims from the wreckage.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 25-year-old man driving the truck allegedly fled the scene on foot but was later taken into custody. LAPD traffic investigators are working to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Video from the scene showed Ramos’ clothing and shoes lying in the street. A witness told KABC 7 that the driver had been driving recklessly just before the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
