Neo Moroke

Venice, California – Authorities have identified the 23-year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision in Venice last month as Neo Moroke, officials said Wednesday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the fatal crash occurred around 2 a.m. on September 20 at the intersection of Washington and Lincoln boulevards. Moroke was walking in a marked crosswalk when a blue SUV hit him.

The driver failed to stop and render aid, as required by law, and was last seen heading eastbound on Washington Boulevard.

Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded quickly, providing medical assistance before transporting Moroke to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Moroke’s identity on Wednesday.

In response, the Los Angeles City Council has authorized a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction—or civil resolution—of drivers responsible for fatal hit-and-run cases.

Detectives from the LAPD West Traffic Division are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tipsters may call 213-473-0234 during business hours, 877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247) after hours or on weekends, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) to remain anonymous.

Is It Possible to Claim Compensation for a Deadly Hit-and-Run? How?

When a loved one loses their life in a deadly hit-and-run accident, families are left not only with emotional pain but also with pressing financial and legal concerns. In California, the law allows families to pursue justice and compensation through legal claims. Understanding how this process works can help you make informed decisions during such a devastating time.

Can Families File a Wrongful Death Claim?

Yes. The surviving family members of a hit-and-run victim may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. With the guidance of experienced wrongful death attorneys, families can seek compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering. These claims are designed to hold negligent drivers accountable—even when they initially flee the scene.

How Pedestrian Accident Attorneys Help in Hit-and-Run Cases

Since many fatal hit-and-run victims are pedestrians, working with pedestrian accident attorneys is critical. These lawyers specialize in proving liability, gathering surveillance footage, eyewitness accounts, and police reports to establish the facts of the case. They also understand the unique challenges of pedestrian safety laws in California.

Can You Sue If the Driver Is Never Found?

Yes, in many cases. Even if the at-fault driver is not identified, families may still recover compensation through uninsured motorist coverage or other legal avenues. Skilled hit and run accident attorneys can evaluate insurance options, negotiate with carriers, and file claims on your behalf.
