Sylmar, California – Authorities are searching for the driver of a red Honda Accord who fled the scene after fatally striking a woman and severely injuring a man Thursday night near the Hansen Dam Recreation Area in Sylmar, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded at about 8:34 p.m. to the 11700 block of Foothill Boulevard, near Kagel Canyon, after reports of a collision involving two pedestrians.
Detectives said a red 2005 Honda Accord two-door coupe traveling northbound on Foothill Boulevard hit a 46-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man as they crossed the street. The driver failed to stop, identify themselves, or render aid as required by California law.
Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, while the man was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. His condition remains undisclosed.
Traffic detectives with the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division are leading the investigation and have urged anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or driver to come forward.
