Lancaster, California – Authorities are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 66-year-old Palmdale woman identified as J. Karwowski, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Avenue D and 70th Street West, northwest of Lancaster.
Investigators reported that Karwowski was driving a 2002 Ford northbound on 70th Street West when she entered the intersection and was struck by an eastbound 2021 Peterbilt truck driven by a 24-year-old man from Riverside.
“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Ford entered the intersection directly into the path of the Peterbilt, resulting in a collision,” the CHP said in a statement. Karwowski sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been factors in the crash. Roads in the area remained closed for about two hours while officers conducted their investigation.
Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact the CHP’s Antelope Valley Area office at (661) 743-6060 during business hours, or the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center after hours at (323) 259-3200.
