Angeles National Forest, California – Authorities have identified the man who was killed Thursday morning after his vehicle plunged off a cliff near Arcadia in the Angeles National Forest as 29-year-old Mark Camberos.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. on Chantry Flat Road, near the Santa Anita Dam, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Temple Station. A county worker reportedly saw a car teetering over the cliff before it went down the embankment toward the road leading to the dam.
Emergency crews from the Sierra Madre Fire Department responded to the scene. Investigators said it appeared the driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet determined how the car ended up going over the side of the cliff. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the victim’s identity as Mark Camberos.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
