Los Angeles, California – Two people were rescued and hospitalized early Wednesday after a box truck crashed into a commercial building in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of South Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded at around 4:08 a.m. to the 1700 block of East 21st Street, just west of South Alameda Street, where firefighters worked to free both occupants from the wreckage, according to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
The victims — whose names, ages, and genders have not yet been released — were transported to a hospital in unknown conditions.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety was called to the scene to assess the structural integrity of the damaged building, Stewart said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.
Who Is at Fault When a Car Crashes Into a Building?
When a vehicle collides with a home or commercial property, determining fault depends on what caused the driver to lose control. In most cases, the driver is primarily responsible—especially if they were speeding, distracted, intoxicated, or violating traffic laws. In these situations, victims may pursue compensation through experienced car accident law firm representation.
However, not every car-into-building crash is solely the driver’s fault. Liability can shift or be shared depending on contributing factors:
- Road hazards or poor roadway design: If a city failed to maintain safe road conditions, the government entity may share fault.
- Vehicle defects: If brakes, steering, or other components malfunctioned, the manufacturer could bear responsibility.
- Unsafe property conditions: A building that lacks proper barriers, lighting, or protective structures could contribute to the severity of the crash.
- Another negligent driver: Sometimes a second driver causes the impact by forcing the at-fault driver off course.
Those affected—including injured drivers, passengers, pedestrians, or property owners—should speak with a personal injury lawyer california to identify every liable party and maximize available compensation. Skilled car accident lawyers in california can review police reports, surveillance footage, witness statements, and expert evaluations to determine the true cause of the impact.
If the crash happens in Los Angeles, a local los angeles car accident attorney can help property owners and injured victims file claims for structural damage, medical bills, lost income, and other losses.
