Lancaster, California – A woman was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday evening while crossing a street in Lancaster, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 5:14 p.m. near the intersection of Avenue I and Kingtree Avenue, according to Det. Ryan Ament of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station. Preliminary findings indicate the woman was walking southbound across Avenue I outside of a marked or unmarked crosswalk when she was hit.
Detectives said the pedestrian was struck by a silver Honda SUV traveling westbound on Avenue I. The driver failed to stop, contact authorities, or render aid before fleeing the scene.
The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have not yet determined whether speed or impairment contributed to the crash. The hit-and-run remains under active investigation.
