Spring Valley, California – A 50-year-old woman was killed over the weekend after a head-on collision involving a suspected intoxicated driver in a neighborhood near Sweetwater Reservoir, authorities said Monday.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday on Jamacha Road near Darby Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was driving westbound in a 2021 Nissan Rogue when an eastbound 2010 Toyota Camry crossed over a concrete median and slammed into her vehicle.
Paramedics transported the woman to a nearby trauma center, where she was later pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her family.
The driver of the Toyota, along with two passengers—including a child—and the driver of the Nissan, were all taken to local hospitals. CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez said the three adults suffered serious injuries, while the child was hospitalized as a precaution.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision, though Lopez noted that alcohol or drugs are believed to have played a role in the crash.
